Why trees?

Trees help cool the planet by sucking in and storing harmful greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, into their trunks, branches, and leaves, and releasing oxygen back into the atmosphere. In cities, trees can reduce overall temperature by up to eight degrees Celsius. With more than 50% of the world’s population living in cities—a number expected to increase to 66% by the year 2050—pollution and overheating are becoming a real threat. Fortunately, a mature tree can absorb an average of 48 lbs of carbon dioxide per year, making cities a healthier, safer place to live. Additional benefits of trees are they help clean the air we breathe by absorbing harmful carbon from the atmosphere, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity. They also provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines.

If that's not enough to convince you...Recent research shows planting a trillion trees is the most cost-effective and realistic way to preserve our planet and reduce global carbon emissions.

Trees are the natural climate solution. Moreover, trees can help to preserve biodiversity and restore ecosystems.

Is 1treellion trying to combat climate change, deforestation, or desertification?

Yes. Let's first understand those terms so we can answer.

Climate change is any significant long-term change in the expected patterns of average weather of a region (or the whole Earth) over a significant period of time. By the way, we are not referring here to Weather which is a short-term atmospheric condition. The climate is the weather of a specific region averaged over a long period of time. Again, Climate change refers to long-term changes.

Deforestation describes the cutting down or clearing of trees from a wooded area, while desertification is land degradation in typically dry areas resulting from various factors, including climatic variations and human activities. When trees are lost due to deforestation, the result can be a drier climate and desertification or the transformation of the once fertile land into a desert.

Desertification has been described as “the greatest environmental challenge of our time” and climate change is making it worse.

Now that we covered those terms we can answer. In 1treellion we believe that planting trees can help from multiple angles, helping to address deforestation, combat desertification as well as prevent the negative impact on biodiversity and or ecosystems, among other benefits that trees can bring to us. 1treellion aims to plant trees all over the world to do that and more.

Will 1treellion actively plant trees?

We are focused on what we do best, bringing communities together to collectively rise enough funds to support organizations that are actively planting trees.

Selected organizations would have to prove their capacity to plant and maintain trees, and respect local communities, agriculture & ecosystems.

Where does my money go?

1treellion is granting organizations all over the world. Organizations that can prove to plant and maintain trees to fight climate change. You can see our projects and their progress on this page.

Is there a minimum amount for donations?

You can donate as little money as you wish, and we appreciate any little donation as much as those big ones. The bigger donation the higher contribution you make to reforestation and the bigger the positive impact on the Earth. Each donation, independently from quantity, will be tax deductible with the receipt will be automatically sent your way after each donation.

What percentage is directed to planting trees?

90% of collected funds will be directly granted to grow up the Global Fund. 10% of collected funds will be dedicated to operational costs.

Why 1treellion?

We are the tree rangers, making sure all funds raised for the cause are dedicated and distributed to planting trees initiatives all over the world to where it makes the most impact.

Believe it or not, planting is not always the best way to get trees back! Planting trees means

starting with a nursery and transporting them to planting sites where they have been sowed

and grown under ideal circumstances. Many young saplings die because they cannot adapt

to the harsh world outside.

Of course, we make sure trees are planted where appropriate.

Every organization we support has to go through a vetting process, we make sure they do their job of planting and maintaining the trees till they reach full maturity.

We support and promote high-biodiversity, high-yield, high-impact agroforestry systems.

What makes 1treellion different from all other planting organizations?

1treellion is not just another tree planting program. 1treellion is a movement that brings communities together to raise awareness and funds to cool the Earth. It is through the power of togetherness & the 3 major initiatives (CEO Pledge, PlanetGREEN Campaign & PlanetAid Event) that ambassadors, industry leaders, renowned artists, and activities are working together towards the same mission: Plant trees to cool the Earth.

PlanetAID what is that?

We are in the midst of magic making, using art, music, and community.

Inspired by LiveAid and its huge success, we plan to globally raise awareness and funds to help fix the damage we have done.

Currently planning to host the event in the second half of 2021, this event is expected to be the major source of funds to ultimately plant trees.
